SUMMARY:The New Quintet at Stecoah Valley Center
DESCRIPTION:Podcaster Nicholas Edward Williams headlined last year’s Harvest Festival to positive accolades for how he traced the roots of American music from its cultured past to artists playing it forward. The American Songcatcher returns to Stecoah this fall with The NEW Quintet\, a band guided by the passion to honor the songs and styles that have shaped our country from Traditional Folk to Ragtime\, Old-Time and Early Country. The NEW Quintet features storyteller and musicologist Nicholas Edward Williams (Guitar\, Vocals)\, Emma Dubose (Fiddle\, Vocals)\, Jade Watts (Upright Bass\, Vocals)\, Gordon Inman (Clarinet)\, and Cody Ray (Guitar\, Lap Steel). The ensemble’s big harmonies\, intricate melodies\, and lush textures rain upon both original and reimagined traditional material. The NEW Quintet formed in 2020 while making Williams’ critically acclaimed release Folk Songs For Old Times’ Sake. It was heralded by well-regarded figures of the roots community such as David Holt\, Oliver Wood\, Dom Flemons\, and JP Harris. Since then\, The NEW Quintet has been on stages throughout the Southeast: at festivals\, concert series\, listening rooms and theaters. \nTickets: Adults $15; Students/K-12 $10; plus tax. All concerts are in the fully restored Lynn L. Shields Auditorium. Snacks and beverages are available for purchase in the Schoolhouse Cafe beginning at 6 pm.

SUMMARY:Appalachian Evening Concert with Jeff Little Trio
DESCRIPTION:The piano rarely plays a prominent part in Appalachian or Americana music and is seldom the lead instrument. Jeff Little is an exception – and a remarkable one. His distinctive two-handed style\, much influenced by the mountain flat-picked guitar tradition\, is breathtaking in its speed\, precision\, and clarity. He was inducted into the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame in 2014. \nJeff is joined by Steve Lewis (guitar/banjo) who has won many championships including two time national banjo champion. Jeff’s son\, Luke Little (mandolin)\, rounds out the trio. Jeff knows how to please a crowd and effortlessly engages his audience; the acoustics and intimate setting of our auditorium make this one a don’t miss evening.
