Dancing on the Square with Bill Pruett

Introducing Bill Pruett –
Banjo player Bill Pruett is a living legend — he’s been playing guitar and banjo when he was just six or seven years old, growing up in the Balsam Gap area near Waynesville. As a teenager Bill sometimes accompanied the legendary Samantha Bumgarner at the courthouse in Sylva — she affectionately called him “Cottontop.”
Bill’s bluegrass career includes a stint with Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys, the band that gave bluegrass music its very name. He has also shared the stage with other bluegrass royalty — Mac Wiseman, Chubby Wise, Josh Graves, and Joe Stuart among them. He has always enjoyed picking for the joy of it but he managed to pick up a Florida State Banjo Championship along the way, anyway.
Bill loves the older mountain tunes including old-time, Scottish, and Irish music. He doesn’t plan to retire unless his mind or fingers quit first!
